Do you have any all-time favorite books that you have read before? I would have to say that “Gone With the Wind” by Margaret Mitchell is one of my all-time favorite novels. And here in America, it’s considered to be the most beloved and enduring book.

저는 미국 작가 마가렛 미첼의 소설 ‘바람과 함께 사라지다’를 고등학생 때 처음 읽어봤는데요. 주인공 스칼렛이 모든 것을 잃은 후에도 용기를 잃지 않는 모습에 감동받았던 기억이 납니다.

Jen: Marianne, I like reading. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies to do and how about yourself?
Marianne: I love reading. I’m into book clubs but which was my latest book? That’s what I am trying to remember.

Jen: How about “Gone With the Wind”? That’s a very famous book by author Margaret Mitchell.
Marianne: Oh yes! Yes! Margaret Mitchell.

Jen: Have you read that? When did you read it and did you watch the movie?
Marianne: Yes to both. I read it and we own the movie and I think we even own the book and I have a poster of ‘Gone with the Wind’ because it’s one of my all-time favorite.

매리엔은 책 읽는 걸 정말 좋아한다고 하네요. 그래서 제가 매리엔에게 “그럼 바람과 함께 사라지다 라는 소설책은 읽어보셨나요? 그 책을 영화로도 만들었는데, 보신 적 있죠?” 라고 물어보니까 매리엔은 “책도 읽고 영화로도 봤습니다. 그 책과 영화도 아마 집에 있을 걸요. 아, 맞다! 그리고 바람과 함께 사라지다 포스터도 벽에 붙어 있어요! Because it’s one of my all-time favorite! 왜냐하면, 내가 제일 좋아하는 소설이거든요!” 라고 하더라고요!

오늘의 영어 표현은: All time favorite입니다.
Favorite은 ‘마음에 드는 / 매우 좋아하는’ 이라는 뜻이죠?

그래서 All-time favorite 이라고 하면 ‘가장 좋아하다 / 가장 마음에 든다’ 라는 뜻입니다. All-time favorite은 most favorite과 같은 뜻입니다. All-time favorite means it’s one of the best things you can ever like or favorite. 그럼 대화를 다시 들어보겠습니다.
