Jen: Just on a side note, you mentioned that you’re a nurse. What got you into nursing?

Shane: Actually I was certified to be a high school English teacher and there weren’t any jobs in the 1970s. So I later just decided, because there was a nurse in the family that I was interested in that and I went to nursing school.
Jen: Well, thank you so much for your service!

Shane은 25년 동안 간호사 일을 했다고 하는데요, 제가 Shane에게 간호사를 하게 된 계기를 물어봤습니다. 영어로 What got you into nursing? 이라고 했는데요, get into something은 '어떤 상황에 처하다'라는 뜻이 있습니다.

그래서 What got you into something 말 그대로 하면, 'what 무엇이 got you into something 당신을 그 상황에 처하게 만들었나요'라는 말인데요, 즉 'something에 관심을 갖게 된 이유가 무엇인가요? Something을 하게 된 계기가 무엇인가요?'라는 의미입니다.
