Mike: Hey, do you think we can go to Hillary’s house within an hour?
Jen: With this kind of traffic, that’s out of the question.
Mike: Even though it’s out of the question I thought I’d ask.

Mike가 저에게 “Hey, do you think we can go to Hillary’s house within an hour? 라고 묻자 제가 “With this kind of traffic, that’s out of the question.

그러자 Mike가 “Even though it’s out of the question I thought I’d ask. Keep today’s phrase ‘out of the question’ in mind and let’s hear the conversation again.

Mike: Hey, do you think we can go to Hillary’s house within an hour?
Jen: With this kind of traffic, that’s out of the question.
Mike: Even though it’s out of the question I thought I’d ask.

오늘의 표현은 out of the question입니다. When someone says that something is out of the question, it means that it’s impossible and not worth considering.

Out of the question 에서 ‘the question’은 ‘질문’이라는 뜻이고 ‘out of’는 ‘무엇의 밖으로’ 라는 뜻이죠. 따라서 ‘Out of the question’은 ‘불가능한 얘기다, 말해 봐야 소용없다, 생각할 가치도 없다.’

Let me give you some examples. “Buying a house this year is out of the question.”

“I would love to meet with you this week but Friday is out of the question.” Now you know what ‘out of the question’ means right? Then we’ll listen to the conversation for the last time.

Mike: Hey, do you think we can go to Hillary’s house within an hour?
Jen: With this kind of traffic, that’s out of the question.
Mike: Even though it’s out of the question I thought I’d ask.
